Tour Six

Lincoln University–Jefferson City Compost Site

Silo at Carver Farm

Silo at Carver Farm

Composting, vegetable gardening, and hydroponics are the three key elements of this great tour.  Two sites of Lincoln University will be visited along with Jefferson City’s own compost site.

The tour will view how food and paper scraps from Lincoln University’s cafeteria are placed in a huge steel drum to produce quality compost at Busby Farm.  Also, at this site are the prairie and rain gardens.

The Carver Farm tour will be hosted by assistant professor and horticultural specialist to explain a hydroponics project to grow herbs and fruits along with the variety trials of numerous vegetables.  You will get a first hand look at some unusual varieties of eggplants and heirloom tomatoes.  Many, many more vegetables are also there for a look-see.

The last stop is the compost site of Jefferson City where patrons may not only bring yard wastes but may buy several different mulches.  This is a real “down to earth” tour and not to be missed!
