Share Our Joy!

This tour includes four stops and you won’t want to leave any of them!

A longtime Master Gardener and garden club office holder, Alice Hansen, shares her garden that overlooks the Missouri River.  Her meticulous lawn is surrounded by unusual and contrasting planting beds that feature an urn water garden, an espaliered apple tree, pathways, and one of the most beautiful koi ponds we’ve ever seen!

The next stop is at our own Central Missouri Master Gardeners’ pride and joy: our Demonstration Garden with Lewis and Clark gardens and our 36' x 90' greenhouse.  Come see what makes our Demonstration Garden a place that Jefferson City citizens stop to have lunch or take a walk with children and grandchildren.  Let us show you our greenhouse that allows us to grow plants from February through April to sell at our annual Plant Sale.  This sale funds all our civic projects and scholarships each year.

Another stop is at the Sod Farm of Jim Keevan.  He comes from a family who continues to grow grass for the mid-Missouri area.  He will show you the different varieties of grass grown, the machinery it takes to accomplish this, and the irrigation system.  He regularly speaks to the University of Missouri students and will be ready and eager to answer your questions about turf.

Degree of walking difficulty:  easy to moderate.
